The Premier League’s fixture highlight pits Chelsea against heavyweights Liverpool at the Stamford Bridge.
Both teams go into the game on the back of midweek defeats in the Champions League with Chelsea succumbing at home to Valencia while Napoli embarrassed holders Liverpool 2-0 in Naples.
5 points at the top of the league, Liverpool could replicate 4-0 hammering Manchester United gave Chelsea on the opening day with their hosts lacking key starters. They have however not won at the Bridge for the last two seasons.
The attacking trio of Mo Salah, SadioMane and Roberto Firmino are in blistering form coming up an ever changing Chelsea defence. The Reds hope Divock Origi and Naby Keita will pass late fitness tests with goalkeeper Alisson Becker nearing a return to action.
The two sides have already met early in the season in the UEFA Super Cup with Liverpool winning 5-4 on penalties.
The Blues are sweating on the fitness of several key players with Mason Mount being the latest on the injury table adding to Antonio Rudiger and Emerson Palmieri.
Frank Lampard is hopeful of a N’golo Kante return to shore up stability in midfield.
Tammy Abraham, who is the league’s top scorer with 7 goals, is out for revenge after his missed penalty handed Liverpool the Super Cup.
Head to Head:
There have 3 stalemates in the last 6 encounters between the two with Chelsea victorious in two of them.
